Barren River Area Search Dog Association

Bowling Green, KY
The Barren River Area Search Dog Association has been requested by the City Of New York Police Dept. to travel to the New York area in response to the recent attack on the World Trade Center. Five Cadaver detection trained dogs with handlers and seven support personnel will be on this mission. The search dog team will be utilized at a nearby area where debris from the World Trade Center is being trucked from the site of the attack. The length of time the team will be utilized has yet to be determined. The Barren River Area Search Dog Association is an all volunteer group based in the Bowling Green KY area. Dogs and handlers must undergo approximately 2-3 years of training, involving dog obedience, search and specialized skills for wilderness, cadaver and water search. The team is requesting donations of funds for the trip, and also the following supplies: 3M ˝ face respirators, leather gloves, plastic sheeting, disposable towels, garbage bags, ear and eye protection, flash lights and batteries. Friday, Sept. 14th BRASDA Receives request for resources.
Monday, Sept. 17th, BRASDA Receives request to deploy 5 cadaver dogs & 12 support personnel to Staten Island.
Wed., Sept 20th, First Angel Flights leave KY for Newark, NJ.
0300 Sept., 21st, First BRASDA rotation on debris begins.
BRASDA continues rotations on debris piles at Staten Island “Fresh Kills” Landfill.
Teams of dogs and handlers, and 1-2 support personnel operate in 6 Hr shifts. Dogs work 40 minutes on 1 hour off. Operation continues 24 hours a day.
BRASDA finishes last rotation at 1400 hrs on Sunday, Sept. 23rd .
Sept.24th BRASDA team members remain in NY, Planes are grounded due to weather. BRASDA does school appearance in Manhattan.
Sept 25th, 2 Angel Flights transport remaining teams to Bowling Green KY
